My Story

From the outside my childhood looked normal; me, mum, dad, sister in a nice house, on a nice estate. But behind closed doors, my Dad was an emotionally unavailable, abusive alcoholic. 
 
By the age of 12, I found myself in a messy divorce, dealing with my Dad’s emotional blackmail and suicidal behaviour. Despite this, I went to live with him, won over by his attempts at being a “cool dad”. He’d buy me drugs and alcohol, let my friends and boyfriend stay over, and turn a blind eye to my sexual activity; catapulting me into adulthood before I was ready. 
 
At 12 years old I no longer had a safe home, kicked out on multiple occasions, I ricocheted between two parents who weren’t able to cope or provide stability. Rejected, abused and abandoned, I completely lost myself. Unable to process the pain I was in, I’d lash out in rage at others.
 
It wasn’t until age 16 when my Dad kicked me out for the last time, that I realised his motivation all along had been financial gain from having custody of me. My mum took me in, despite our relationship being damaged. But in order to live in her home, I had to abide by her rules – revising over partying, conforming over freedom, childhood over faux-adulthood.
Despite everything my Dad continued to put me through, I still felt obliged to be there for him, as though I was the responsible parent. Finally, aged 20, I decided to take responsibility for myself instead, redefining who I was and what I would accept, reclaiming my power and starting to rewrite my story. From here on out my Dad would be absent, but through my own choice. 
 
No longer a “failing daughter”, now I was just me. In the absence of a relationship that had defined me for so long, I was ready to discover who I really was and my purpose in life. I travelled the world on a spiritual quest of holistic healing – immersing myself in the worlds of yoga ashrams, gurus and teachers, plant medicine, reiki and meditation. 
 
At the end of a 3 year journey, I found myself standing on a paradise beach in India, but inside I was being called to return home and apply everything I’d learned to step into my purpose. Unfortunately, this isn’t Eat, Love, Pray and instead I found myself working back at a 9-5, struggling against the undeniable knowing that this was no longer for me, but not knowing what else I could do.
 
Two years later I finally invested in a coach desperately hoping this would help me figure out where I was going. 6 months later everything I had experienced in my life made sense, and I was firmly on my path to servings others. 

Coaching has been life changing for me, not only personally, but also as my calling; enabling me to serve others with parental wounds in redefining, reclaiming and rewriting their stories too.
